Morning Edition, May 24, 2007 · The late Sen. Strom Thurmond's record is secure. In 1957, Thurmond conducted a filibuster that lasted more than 24 hours. Buffalo high-schooler Jeffrey Long tried to break the record for his senior project. He fell asleep five hours short of his goal.
